Nearly 75 million Americans belong to the baby boomer generation, with approximately 3 million of them reaching retirement age each year through 2025. Guiding these individuals through effective tax strategies will be a crucial responsibility for tax professionals in the coming years. This session will explore the key tax issues faced by those approaching retirement. By understanding these tax issues, tax professionals can develop advisory services to assist these taxpayers achieve a more financially secure retirement. Focusing on this aspect of tax planning can be highly rewarding, providing a pathway to elevate a tax professional’s practice to deliver more valuable services to its clients.

About the Speaker
Rodney J. Couts, EA (Rod), is the President of Seaside Resources, Inc., located in Carlsbad, CA. Since becoming an Enrolled Agent in September 2004, he has specialized in serving small businesses, particularly S corporations, as well as high-net-worth individuals. Rodney J. Couts is an accomplished speaker and writer who has appeared on numerous television and radio programs, including CNN's Lou Dobbs Moneyline, Fox on Consumers, and Motorweek. His articles have been published in the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Working Mother, and Forbes. Since 2011, Rod has been educating other tax professionals, presenting classes for the California Society of Tax Consultants (CSTC), California Society of Enrolled Agents (CSEA), and National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP). He served as president of the California Society of Tax Consultants from 2017 to 2019 and was honored as CSTC Member of the Year in 2015. Originally from Ohio, Rod earned his Bachelor of Science in Business with a major in accounting from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
